watercolours of mars by greyfin watercolours of mars by greyfin
excuse the corny title. i just couldn't resist.
it's not fanart per se since likeness wasn't my primary goal, but you can guess whose face i used as a reference.

my second attempt at watercolour. first one:

Thank you. But I can assure you a lot of it is practice. Practice. Practice. Anatomy study. Practice. Anatomy study. Practice....

*cringe* for the title, but looks great. I can't believe this is only your second watercolor, your control of the lighting looks great.

Totally repetitive, I know  Eloquent I'm not. But you really do a good job with contrasts and lighting. So many paintings turn out flat, even if they're technically well done, you know?

Oh, wow! That's so amazing! That really looked EXACTLY like David Tennent. I'm in awe.

Only your second attempt at watercolor?! Could have easily fooled me! I love how you went and accented it with the white pen; the sharp, scratchiness of the pen creates a nice contrast to the smoothness and fluidity of the watercolors.

well, it was. i guess the medium suits if you already "think painterly" (in shapes instead of lines).

nice water color work. like how it bleeds and stains. hard to tell what it is looks like you used a white color pencil to do back lighting and bring out some details, nice :)

cool I like to do with water color if you use a smoother surface like illustration board and can use a hair drier to dry it to the surface and use a brush with water to pull out highlights

jep, had to use a white gel pen because i didn't have any opaque white here. i kinda like the textured paper. but i'm open to any tips from those who are more experienced with that medium. :D

i used ink, but it was to strong/permanent for my taste. but i'm still using it to create textures i work with in my digital stuff.
regarding the other: alas no, i'm more the oil colour type when it comes to traditional painting.

thanks for your praise and the :+devwatch: :)

yeah ink is very unforgiving. With ink you don't correct mistakes you hide them.

whee, thank you kindly.
the new forum (gallifrey base) is kinda anonymous, people just post their stuff and wait for the praise to come in. i don't like it very much there - so far. maybe that will change once the community spirit takes off.

Yes, I registered but I find it intimidating! It seems so busy and hectic! I found it hard to get around!!! But yeah, hopefully when community spirit kicks in it'll be better!

the old one was busy, too. i rarely stepped outside the fanart section. but the spirit between users there isn't what it was over at the old forum. maybe it's because many of the old warriors are missing.
they found their new home over at braxiatel.com. it's cozy, but too calm for me. 3-5 posts a day in a forum of over 200 members isn't much.

True.Yeah, I was the same. mainly stuck to the fanart.
Yeah I'd find that too slow.
I prefer a doctor who thread in another forum, kind of off topic.
Much prefer it here though!
