william hartnell alias doctor who (1st incarnation)
ca. 6hours. 4b, hb, 2h and that free ikea pencil.

HELP!
i'm very uncertain about this one. having seen only a few of his episodes in crappy net qualitly so far i don't think i got the likeness right. there are so few decent pictures of him online.
what do the experts say?
p.s.: i know suck at drawing hands...

edit:
i worked out the main likeness problem due to a very nice person on whoforum.com. head too broad. some adjustment in photoshop and i'm actually beginning to like this one. also reworked the hand a bit.

This is one of the best William Hartnell drawings I've seen. Absolutely brilliant.

For what it's worth, I've never seen Hartnell's Doctor outside of Wiki pictures and YouTube, but he's still immediately recognizable. So, even with some problems with the hand, it does succeed as a portrait, there.

You are right about there being so few references. But if my memory serves me right, you have done the character proud.

Do you wanna come with me?
It won't be quiet, it won't be safe, and it won't be calm. But I'll tell you what it will be: the trip of a lifetime.

thanks for reassuring me concernng the likeness.
and yes, i need some practice with drawing hands (and feet) - very badly. i *know* where sinews, muscles and bones are, which volume causes which shadow and i STILL don't get it right. it's frustrating.

thank you so much. i'm relieved to hear similar from various people. after putting several hours into this piece i would have been disappointed if i had failed completely. minor mistakes i can live with. :D

I think it's a good likeness! :)
Oh, and I've found this site through link hopping: [link] It might be of some use for reference pictures of the classic and new Doctors...

thanks.
i already know that link - it's were i got his reference from ;)
most of the shots do have a rather small resolution, though. ok for many photo-manips, but if you need it for a traditional portrait...

As I'm old enough to have watched the original series of Dr Who when first broadcast ... I can assure you you've done a great job!
